Isotropic Superfinishing Process
Isotropic superfinishing treatment on metal surfaces with complex geometries
2 Effe Engineering has developed a polishing system with diamond pastes which allows to obtain a very low level of roughness (Ra<0.02 µm). This procedure acts superficially by establishing high degrees of compression (>-900Mpa).
The polishing system eliminates roughness ridges without the use of acids, which could cause corrosion phenomena over time.
The morphological characteristics of the surface considerably influence the fatigue behavior of mechanical components. Not only that, the surface state also influences functional characteristics such as, for example, oil film efficiency and fluid dynamic performance.
Increased performance of mechanical parts. What we do:
- we detect the tensions induced by polishing using RX diffractometry;
- we evaluate, by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the morphology of the polished surface;
- we carry out qualitative chemical analysis of particles possibly placed on the surface using a microanalysis probe.

After
Process
The process essentially consists of the mechanical removal, through abrasion by sliding abrasive pastes in aqueous solution, of the processing ridges (generally grinding).
It does not induce appreciable geometric deformations and the removal, depending on the initial roughness, can be fractions of microns.
