HVOF metallization for metal surfaces
HVOF and Cold Spray metallization
High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) e Cold Spray
High Velocity Oxy Fuel (HVOF) and Cold Spray are spray metallization techniques that improve the surface characteristics of a material and extend its life even in very corrosive environments.
These advantages can be obtained without altering the toughness and structural characteristics of the substrate. Compared to brazing and other metallization techniques (for example with plasma arc), in the HVOF technique much of the energy imparted to the particles is kinetic rather than thermal, this allows a reduction in the number of particles that oxidize during processing.
Furthermore, the high flow speed ensures that any particles that are not completely melted are deformed by the impact, thus reducing any porosity of the final coating and increasing the degree of anchoring of the coating.
The coating produced has these characteristics:
- high resistance to wear
- high and controllable hardness (up to 1200-1400 Hv300)
- low porosity (reduced to 1 – 1.5%)
- high anchoring resistance (compressions greater than 80 Mpa)
- maximum thickness of 13 mm
- particularly fine surface finish with good Ra values
Activities
The process uses a mixture of fuels: kerosene burns with a high percentage of oxygen and produces a flame whose gas flow speed exceeds 2000m/sec.
Metal powders are injected radially into this flow and are immediately melted and accelerated up to approximately 1000m/sec. Once they impact the substrate, the particles solidify rapidly giving rise, thanks to the high kinetic energy they possess, to lamellar structures (splat).
With the systems at its disposal, 2 Effe Engineering is able to create different types of coating, of different composition, for example:
